ALI VON KLAN

Raleigh, NC, U.S.

Ali is a daughter, sister, friend, feminist, queer ally, animal loving, passionate, optimistic, caring intersex person with Swyer Syndrome. She lives in Raleigh, North Carolina and will return to the University of California at Berkeley in fall 2014 to complete her B.A. in Gender and Women’s Studies.

Her academic interests include bioethics, human sexuality, abnormal psychology, dis/ability, and defining the various lengths people with intersex conditions will go to possess bodily integrity. In 2011, after six years of closeting her atypical sexual reproductive anatomy and chromosomal make-up Ali became a founding member of Inter/Act to bring teenagers and young adults possessing congenital variations of sex development together.

She dreams of increased tolerance and awareness of sexual difference so that no child will ever feel ashamed of their unique intersexed anatomy. In her limited spare time she enjoys long walks with her dog, exploring new surroundings, cooking at home, reading for pleasure, soaking in a bath, meditating, and practicing mindfulness.
